Breakout: Protecting Project Profits Today for Tomorrow's Wins

Roosevelt

With the evolution of newer contracts and risk cascading down to the contractors executing projects, it’s more imperative than ever to create a culture of teamwork. Capturing, identifying and tracking events in a project management software can help mitigate potential risks. Pinpointing delays, RFI and submittal statuses, third-party damage or possible scope creep are all valuable pieces of data to refer to, giving individuals the confidence needed for difficult conversations. A panel of peers will discuss how protecting project profits today can set the team up for the wins of tomorrow.

Breakout: Setting Expectations – Managing Scope Creep from PM to VDC

Hollywood 2

In a construction coordination job, project managers and CAD modelers have very distinct roles but some tasks within these roles often overlap which can create internal scope creep for either the PM or CAD modeler. For successful collaboration on a construction coordination job, project managers and CAD modelers need to establish clear communication channels and understand each other’s roles. Often times the VDC Modeler needs to change hats in order to keep the coordination process moving forward. In this session we will discuss some of those tasks that the VDC Modeler should know to keep their job on track and on budget….the days of “that’s not my job” are over along with the excuses that follow.

Breakout: Benchmarking – The Secret Weapon to Optimize Business

Roosevelt

How much should you be spending on marketing? What is a reasonable win rate for projects you estimate? How many people should be on your fleet team? What is the expected profit margin of your prefabrication department? What % of a project budget should be attributed to VDC? What should my employee turnover rate be in my Project Management department? How many days should it take to collect payments, and what is a typical amount of bad debt for my business? These questions cannot be answered in a vacuum. Establishing key business measurements and using these metrics to benchmark your business against other contractors is a secret weapon that managers and executives can use to focus their efforts on improvements and efficiencies.
